Patras Carnival

The largest carnival in Greece is the Carnival of Patras. With almost two centuries of life provides the opportunity for entertainment to the residents and the tens of thousands of visitors.

Its beginning is placed at the liberation of the city, in 1829, when the first carnival dance took place. Each year the atmosphere became more intense, influenced also by the carnival of Venice, with which the port of Patras maintained commercial relationships. The Carnival of Patras from the official opening on the 17th of January until Ash Monday, makes Patras live according to its rhythm, with numerous events. Its climax is the splendid carnival procession, the second Sunday of the Carnival. The streets flood with colorful chariots and happy masked people dancing tirelessly.
