A Day in Lavrio

Lavrio, at the south edge of Attica, is a picturesque city with a great history, since at this area were the famous mines that were used both in antiquity and modern times. The ancient mines are located at nearby Thorikos, while the modern industrial facilities, of the 19th and the 20th century, have survived at the Technological and Cultural Park, at the entrance of the city.

In Lavrio there is an interesting Mineralogial Museum, many beautiful neo-classical buildings, traditional cafes and taverns, which transport visitors through time. At the area between Lavrio and Sounio is the Sounio National Park, with particular interest to nature lovers.
