Visiting the Lagoon

The famous lagoon of Messolonghi is created by the illuviation at the outfalls of two rivers, Acheloos and Evinos, and one of the most important ecosystems of Greece. The calm, shallow waters, the peaceful sunsets, the boats and the “pelades”, the traditional wooden huts of the fishermen, are unique spectacles that create an extraordinary landscape.

It is worth following the exceptional road, approximately 5 kilometers long, which crosses the lagoon and reaches the picturesque small island of Tourlida. The route is ideal for walking, car or bicycle ride, while in Tourlida there are cafes, restaurants and a beach for swimming.
