Eggplant Festival

The famous sweet Tsakonian eggplant is cultivated in the area of Leonidio and it is one of the most important products of the area, certified with a protected designation of origin. Every year, on the last ten days of August, the Municipality of Leonidio organized the eggplant festival.

The events take place to the beautiful port of Plaka and include Tsakonian songs and dances, as well as a cooking contest with dishes based on eggplant and are judged by a committee of experts. The visitors have the experience to taste different dishes cooked by people of the area according to traditional recipes and can purchase local delicacies based on eggplants.
