Festivals in Lesvos

Nobel Prize winner Odysseus Elytis expressed his admiration a lot of times for his beloved island Lesvos. It is truly an ideal destination for many reasons. It is worth combining your visit with one of the famous festivals, which take place on the island, and ascertaining for yourself that celebration is truly unique in Lesvos!

In Sigri, on the 24th of July, they light up the fires during the Festival of Ai Giannis Klidonas. Each year on the 15th of August they honor with a festival the Virgin Mary in Agiasos and in Petra. The Festival of Agios Ignatios, at the Limonos Monastery, takes place on the 14th October. During the Great Vespers in the day before all the Byzantine religious ritual comes to life.

The Festival of Taxiarches takes place on the Sunday of the Myrrh Bearers in Mantamados.

Finally, the Festival of Taurus is the greatest folk celebration in Agia Paraskevi and combines a variety of events that are related to the ancient ritual of bull sacrifice, the last weekend of June or the first of July and in Pigi in the last weekend of July.
