Lake of Kastoria

The scenic ride to lake Orestiada or lake of Kastoria, as it is more commonly known, is an activity that the visitor to the city should most definitely undertake.

It is an enchanting landscape. Platanus and willow trees, fishermen with their rods and water birds of great variety create a scenery that will linger in the mind of the visitors, exalting both the eyes and the soul.

The tour around the lake, approximately 7 km, can be made either on foot, or through the refurbished ship from the 1960s, the well-known "Olympia", which beings back nostalgic images to those who decide to make the mini cruise. During the tour around the lake you can admire the Byzantine church of Agios Nikolaos (St Nicholas), on a hill in the beginning of the tour, the Holy Monastery of Panagia Mavriotissa, with the 1000-year-old platanus tree, and the post-Byzantine church of the Transfiguration of Our Savior.
