Mushroom Celebrations

Grevena are often called “land of the mushrooms”, because there are approximately 2,500 species of mushrooms in the whole area of the prefecture, while the collection, the preservation, the ways of cooking them and eating them are part of the local tradition and history. At the area of Grevena they organize a lot of events for the mushrooms, with most important one the Mushroom Festival, which takes place every year, in the end of August, at a different village each time, gathering people from all over Greece and including music events, seminars, speeches, organized excursions for gathering mushrooms and of course eating mushrooms cooked in many different ways.
