This is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the Prefecture of Evros and is located west of Alexandroupoli. It is believed that it is the ancient Zone, which was a thriving colony of the island of Samothrace, on the opposite shore of Thrace. This important Greek colony was established in the end of the 7th century and continued to develop until the Roman conquest, when it started to decline, because other main routes were created, like Via Egnatia.
At the archaeological site, the visitors can admire, among others, the marble sanctuary of Demeter, the temple of Apollo, some public buildings, as well as parts of the city's structure, of the walls etc.
