Historic Temples
At Milesi of Attica, between Oropos and Malakasa, on top of a hill in the forest, is the Metochi of the Holy Convent of Metamorphosis Sotiros (Transfiguration of Our Savior), one of the most important pilgrimages of Attica, which attracts a lot of believers.
It was founded in 1979-1980 by the monk-priest Porhyrios Bairaktaris who has been declared a saint by the church. The buildings of the Metochi started being built in in 1981 and were completed in stages. The catholicon was founded in 1990 and is dedicated to the Transfiguration of Our Savior. The church follows the Byzantine order and is impressively large in dimensions, is all white without ceramic tiles.
The convent celebrates on August 6th while it honors the memory of Agios Porphyrios on December 2nd.
