Kefalonia (or Cephalonia) is famous all over the world for its turquoise waters and the amazing beaches, while it has rare natural sights, the result of seismic activity in the area. Furthermore, it is also a favorite destination for pilgrims from all over the world that flock to the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos, patron of the island. Excellent is the experience of the pilgrims of the Church of the Dormition of Virgin Mary, at the village of Markopoulo, when each year, near the 15th of August, small snakes fill the church.
