A Walk at the old city of Kavala
Kavala is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. It is built amphitheatrically around its port and its most beautiful area is undoubtedly the picturesque Panagia district.
Here, the visitor will be excited with the many mansions, of Ottoman architecture, and the cobbled streets which create an aura of a bygone era. The view of the city and the port, particularly during sunset, from the top of the district, the location of the imposing castle, is breathtaking. On the back side of the Panagia district the visitor can also admire the monumental Ottoman aqueduct with the Kamares, which constitutes the landmark of the city and was built by Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century. One can also visit the family house of Mehmet Ali, later pasha of Egypt and father of the notorious Ibrahim, the traditional shipyard, or the Imaret which was initially built as a workhouse and today houses one of the most beautiful hotels in Greece.
