Flavours of Lakonia

The prefecture of Laconia attracts tourists not only due to the rich history that is reflected in numerous of monuments, but also due to its rich gastronomic tradition.

The visitor can enjoy a great variety of local specialties, like “saitia”, that is fried small pies stuffed with cheese or herbs or the famous “siglino”, that is salted pork meat that is smoked and then boiled with oil, oranges and spices. Equally interesting dishes are the loupina, the local legume, the famous cheese “sfela”, a product with a protected designation of origin and the smoked sausage of Mani stuffed with orange. Regarding wine, the white wine of Monemvasia, Malvasia is an excellent choice.
