The archaeological museum of Sparta hosts at its showcases a very large number of findings from the wider area of ancient Lacedaemon. Its interesting exhibits cover a long period of time from the Neolithic Period to the Late Roman Period.
The visitor can admire the findings, which come from the great sanctuaries of ancient Sparta, like the sanctuary of Artemis Orthia, Apollo Amyklaios, Menelaon and Athena Khalkioikos. Also sculptures from the Archaic and Roman period are exhibited here, like the giant head of Hera of Helen, as well as impressive mosaics from the Roman Period. At the seven halls of the museum the visitor can learn everything about this ancient city and its history, as it was shaped through the centuries and the successive changes that they brought to the customs, religion and its traditions.
