Route Sparta-Kalamata through Taygetus

The route that connects Sparta with Kalamata through Taygetus is considered one of the most beautiful of Greece. Just over an hour with a car, through a dense forest of fir trees, steep rocks and springs with running water. Starting from the plain, the road climbs at an altitude of 1,300 m., from which one can admire the panoramic view.

A little bit lower, approaching the two cities, one can visit picturesque villages, like Tripi near Sparta and Artemisia near Kalamata. In the winter the road has problems many times due to bad weather conditions.
