Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil

At the Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil the visitor can receive all the information necessary, regarding the history of the tree and the technology for the production of olive oil from prehistory until the 20th century. The aim of the museum is to demonstrate the relationship of this precious tree and its products with Hellenic culture in all of its aspects. Emphasis is placed on the use of the olive in the economy and commerce of Hellenic world, the diet and the uses for religion and technology, for example for lighting.  

Among the exhibits there are the fossilized leaves, 60,000 years old, which are the earliest indication of the presence of the tree in Greece, and exact replicas of ancient olive presses.
