The museum that records the history of the capital of Laconia with the glorious past is located at the centre of the city, at the neoclassical building of the Cultural Centre. Its exhibitions present the development of Sparta from the Greek revolution of 1821 until the present days.
What is recorded is the history of the first families that settled here from Mystras, the foundation of the city in 1834 after a decree of king Otto, the city planning and its cultural development, while aspects of the economic and social life revive with the original unit that is dedicated to the advertisements of Spartan newspapers from 1880 until the middle of the 20th century.
