... on the islands & at sea

Swimming below the walls of Monemvasia

Following the cobbled road that starts from the square of Christos Elkomenos (Christ in chains) inside the castle of Monemvasia, the visitor arrives at the street that follows the seaside wall. Just under Panagia Chrysafitissa he encounters the only opening of the wall towards the sea, Portelo, which leads to the small rocky beach exactly in front of the walls.

The experience of swimming exactly under the castle, at the only place where in the past they used to transport cargoes, is unforgettable. Even you don’t swim it is worth coming here and continue your walk towards the central gate.
