The stew of Panagia in Oxylithos

Each year, on the 15th of August the church of the Dormition of Virgin Mary in Oxilinthos celebrates and those that can be here on that day, they will have the opportunity to taste the famous traditional stew that is offered after the church service.

Its preparation lasts for several days and demands the participation of the whole village, since they cook several tons of food. The basic ingredients, veal, onions, tomatoes, potatoes, olive oil and wine, are gathered from the residents in the previous days and the day before, approximately two hundred large cauldrons are placed on the fire. Cooking lasts all through the night and the result is, as everyone says, quite unique.
