The Vlachogianneio Museum of Modern History & Art belongs to the Metropolis of Veria. It was donated by the Vlachogiannis family, who kindly granted their family house to the Metropolis.
The Vlachogianneio Museum is located at a beautiful location in the co-called “beach” of Veria and on its backside, as part of its yards, there is the altar area of the older Byzantine church of Agios Nikolaos (which called Gournas).
Initially it operated as the Museum of Modern History and Art and hosted apart from the material for the Macedonian Struggle and a sample from the wealth of Byzantine icons, relics, priest vestments etc of the collection of the Holy Metropolis of Veria, Naousa and Kampania.
Recently this collection was removed in order to be included in the Treasury of the Monastery of Panagia Dovras and the excellent collection of military uniforms and materials of Mr. Kanellos Dodos is exhibited in its place.
