The mansions of Leonidio

Leonidio, the capital of Tsakonia, hides behind the modern bustling town the relics of an old naval city that flourished in the previous centuries. At its traditional districts there are scattered mansions and towers of the 18th and the 19th century, true jewels of architecture.

They are two-storied or three-storied, with yards that are paved or with pebbles, cisterns, roofed verandahs, beautiful decorated roofs and elaborate doors with holes for rifles for defending against the pirates. Among them stand out three rare monuments of that time before the revolution of 1821, the Tower Tsikaliotis, the mansion of Polytimos and the mansion of Katsikogianns.
