Archaeological Site of Dodona

The famous sanctuary of Dodona was related to the worship of Zeus, the father of the gods. At the same time it was the oldest, but also one of the most important oracles of the ancient Greek world. The divinations that were given by the seers resulted, mainly, from the rustle of the leaves of the oak, the sacred tree of Zeus.

Pyrrhus, the king of Epirus, in the 3rd century BC gave a monumental character to the sacred site, erecting impressive buildings, like the theatre, the Prytaneion, the Bouleuterion and the stadium, where the Naia were organized, the sacred games in honor of Zeus. Today, visitors can still admire all the temples and the public buildings, although so many centuries have passed.
