At the central square of Petra, the renovated two-storey mansion of Vareltzidaina, with beautiful wall paintings which maintain its style (end of the 18th century), is a characteristic example of traditional bourgeois house in Lesvos. Its name comes from its last owner who died in 1940 and had the surname Bardaktsoglou (Bardak, Turkish word: barrel).
At the mansion the balance and the symmetry in architecture and decoration create a classical sensation. Luxury is achieved with very simple means, providing a plain and at the same time impressive result. It functions as a Museum and you can visit the whole year.
