ΙOf great archaeological significance is the impressive Temple of Aphaea. This is one of the most important surviving ancient Greek temples of the 5th century BC.
Unfortunately, the sculptures of its pediments had the same fate as the marbles from Parthenon, since they were removed in 1811 by foreign smugglers of antiquities and today they are on display at the Glyptothek of Munich.
