At the district of Bouboutsia in Tsaritsani is the church of Agioi Taxiarches, which according to tradition was the first Metropolitan church of the town during the Turkish Occupation.
It was constructed in 1656 and it was aisleless, with a narthex on the southern side and a gynaikonitis on the western side. Its roof was covered with tiles and its walls are made of stone. At its interior, the narthex and the main church, the wall paintings have been covered with whitewash. However, remarkable wall paintings, that date from the 17th century, survive at the area of the altar, with more impressive the figure of the Platytera, at the conch of the altar, which follows the painting tradition of that period. At the interior of the church one can see an interesting wooden-carved screen, precious sacred vessels of the 18th and the 19th century, as well as an exceptional epitaph, which according to an inscription it has been created in 1800.
On the eastern side of the church there is a chapel annexed, which has been dedicated to Agios Fanourios. At its interior there is an interesting wall painting that has as its theme the “Passage of Time”, that is the course of man’s life through time.
The church celebrates on the 8th of November.
