One of the few Natural History Museums of Greece was established in 2006 in Elassona, at one modern building. It is located next to the central bridge of Elassonitits river at the central square of the city. The Museum was initially housed, when it received the collection of 4,000 exhibits by G. Moutzouridis, in May 1989, at the Monastery of Panagia Olympiotissa. As a matter of fact, the first of the three halls is called “Christian Brotherhood of Elassona, Panagia Olympiotissa”. It hosts a large collection of herbs, fruits and seeds of trees, stones, fossils (shells, fishes, animals) and embalmed species. In some showcases there are relics from the period 1941-1945.
