Museum of Solomos

The museum is dedicated to the life of Dionysios Solomos, the national poet of Greece. Dionysios Solomos wrote his famous works “The Free Besieged” and the “Hymn to Liberty”, whose two first stanzas are the National Anthem of Greece.

The Museum possesses an interesting collection of furniture, portraits, photographs and personal items of the poet.

It is a simple building, which was restored and renovated with the expenses of the Society of Corfiot Studies. The initial building was destroyed during a bombardment during World War II. At the Museum there is also a large library with the works of the Greek national poet. The library is continuously enriched and includes all old publications of “Hymn to Liberty”.
