Vlachernon Monastery is located exactly in front of the cosmopolitan Kanoni, south of the city of Corfu. The district took its name from a battery that the French republicans chose to place there in 1798.
The Monastery was erected in the 17th century. The small island on which it is built lies at a distance of just 300 metres from the near shore. Here one can rent a boat in order to visit the Pontikonisi which is opposite.
Particularly impressive is the wood-carved screen, as well as the icons that decorate the church. The best time to visit the Monastery is during sunset – the view is captivating.
