The theatre of ancient Epidaurus is one of the largest and most well preserved theatres of the ancient world, which fascinates even today visitors with its excellent acoustics. It was built in the 4th century BC by the architect Polycleitos the Younger from Argos and could host 13,000 spectators.
Nowadays here is where they organize the famous Epidaurus festival. The first performance of the modern times have been given in 1938 and it was Sophocles’ Electra, directed by Rontiris. Since then, important artists and great artists, Greek and foreigners, have performed in Epidaurus. Watching a performance on a summer night undoubtedly will prove to be a thrilling experience.
