At the centre of the village of Plataniti, approximately 10 km from the city of Argos, an important Byzantine monument survives: the small elegant church of the Transfiguration of Christ.
No historical testimonies or inscriptions have survived. The church dates from approximately the middle of the 12th century and belongs to the type of cross-in-square church with a dome. Its walls are built according to the Middle Byzantine cloisonné system on its upper part, while on the lower they have used rumble masonry in parts while architectural members have been used for a second time. The dome belongs to the co-called “Athenian type” and is of smaller dimensions.
The church celebrates on the 6th of August.
