Castle of Paralio Astros

The medieval castle dominates on the hill of Nisi, over the modern town. It ws constructed in the 13th century, during the Latin Occupation, by the prince William of Villehardouin and was later converted into a powerful defensive fortress. In the 18th century the three Zafeiropoulos brothers settled here, merchants who lived abroad and returned to their country to help with the preparation of the revolution.

The three residencies they built by shaping the interior of the castle survive in ruins but are important examples of local architecture in the years before the revolution.
