Near the Monastery of Loukou, in Kynouria, at the area of the ancient city of Eva, they have excavated the impressive villa of Herodes Atticus, a rich sophist and politician from the 2nd century AD, known from other monuments, mainly in Attica.
The huge complex has a central yard, which is crossed by an artificial river, stoas decorated with mosaics, reception areas, baths and aqueduct. Herodes was a collector of works of art, so he had converted his villa into a true museum, transferring here a large part of his collection and allowing us today to enjoy exceptional creations that that otherwise would not have been known.
