Το Μουσείο Teriade, στο προάστιο Βαρειά της Μυτιλήνης, φιλοξενεί μόνιμη έκθεση του συνόλου του εκδοτικού έργου του εμπνευσμένου ανθρώπου και καλλιτέχνη Στρατή Ελευθεριάδη-Teriade.
Ο Στρατής Ελευθεριάδης - Teriade γεννήθηκε στη Μυτιλήνη τον Μάιο του 1897 και πέρα από το ενδιαφέρον του για τη ζωγραφική, υπήρξε εμπνευσμένος εκδότης και τεχνοκριτικός. Άρχισε να εκδίδει μοναδικής ποιότητας βιβλία τέχνης που απέκτησαν παγκόσμια φήμη. Μεταξύ αυτών και το περιοδικό VERVE με το οποίο κατάφερε να δημιουργήσει μια διαλεκτική σχέση ανάμεσα στους καλλιτέχνες και τους συγγραφείς.
Στη συλλογή του μουσείου ξεχωρίζουν έργα γνωστών καλλιτεχνών, τεύχη του περιοδικού Verve, αντίτυπα των Μεγάλων Βιβλίων (Grand Livres) που κοσμούνται από πρωτότυπα έργα των Σαγκάλ, Ματίς, Πικάσο κ.ά. σημαντικών εκφραστών της Μοντέρνας Τέχνης του 20ου αι. καθώς και αντίγραφα μεσαιωνικών χειρογράφων. Η συλλογή αυτή καθιστά το Μουσείο μοναδικό σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο, καθώς ακόμη και τα μεγαλύτερα μουσεία στον κόσμο δεν διαθέτουν παρά μόνο μικρά τμήματα από την αντίστοιχη σειρά αυτού του εκδοτικού έργου.
The Museum Teriade, at the suburb Varia in Mytilene hosts a permanent exhibition of the published work of the inspired man and artist Stratis Eleftheriadis-Teriade.
Stratis Eleftheriadis-Teriade was born in Mytilene in May 1897. Apart from its interest in painting he was a successful publisher and art critic.
He started to publish art books of unique quality that became famous all over the world. Among them the magazine VERVE with which he managed to create a relationship of dialogue between the artists and the writers.
The collection of the museum includes works of well-known artists, issues of the Verve magazine, copies of the Grand Livres which are decorated with works by Chagall, Matisse, Picasso etc., important representatives of Contemporary Art in the 20th century as well as copies of medieval manuscripts.
This collection makes the Museum unique in the world, since even the greatest museums in the world possess only fragments of this publishing series.
