At the centre of Thessaloniki, near Modiano Market, is the Ottoman baths known as Pazar Hamam, because it was located at the centre of commercial activity, or Yahudi Hamam, because the Jewish district spread around it.
It was constructed by an Ottoman official in the 16th century and operated until the beginning of the 20th. It a characteristic double bath, with sections for women and men, richly decorated at its interior. Nowadays it continues to be located at one of the liveliest parts of the market and the surrounding area is called Louloudadika, since for many decades there are flower shops in front of it.
