One of the most modern museums in Thessaloniki is the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, which is located at the area of the International Trade Fair. It was founded in 1979 and the και πυρήνας των συλλογών του were the works that were donated by the Greek collector Alexandros Iolas, whose example was followed by many collectors and artists.
Nowadays the museum includes works of important Greek and foreign creators, who represent all the tendencies of painting, engraving, sculpture and other forms of contemporary art. At the areas of the museum there is a museum shop and a café, while a Roman burial complex, which was discovered during the construction of the building, has survived.
