The famous forest over Thessaloniki, Seich Sou, is an important green area in the city and a favorite recreation area for the residents. This Turkish name means “sheik’s water” and is due to a funeral monument that existed here in combination with a spring of water. It is not a natural forest, but an area that where trees were systematically planted in the 1930s.
Nowadays there is a theatre that hosts cultural events, organized paths ideal for walks, while from Kara Tepe, its highest spot, one can admire the view that reaches the Thermaic Gulf.
