Port of Thessaloniki

Already from the antiquity the port was an important location for the life of Thessaloniki and of decisive importance for the commercial activity of the Balkans. The modern port, with the large warehouses, was made in the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century, by a French company, and expanded significantly in the decade of 1980s.

The warehouses in the beginning of the 20th century have been renovated and have been shaped into areas that host cultural events. The most impressive building throughout the port, with a length 200 meters, is the old Customs House, built in 1910 according to plans of Eli Modiano, a characteristic example of Renaissance style.
