At the alleys of Plaka
The “neighborhood of the gods”, Plaka is undoubtedly the most picturesque location of Athens. Paved alleys, uphill streets at the foothills of the Acropolis, neo-classical houses, create a unique setting that enchants the visitor and transports him to a different era.
Throughout the area there are taverns and cafes, stores with souvenirs and folk art artifacts, museums, modern monuments and many churches, some of them true masterpieces if Byzantine and post Byzantine architecture. Some of the alleys lead to Anafiotika, the singular neighborhood that was created in the 19th century by the people from the island of Anafi, famous craftsmen and builders, who worked for the construction of the palace of Otto.
