Benaki Museum

It is one of the most important museums in Athens and offers a great opportunity to witness a wonderful review of Greek civilization from antiquity to modern times. It was founded in 1931 by Antonios Benakis, the descendant of an important Greek family, and includes exhibits from his personal collection, to which they have added through the years a lot of donations of individuals and artists. The central exhibition is housed at one of the most impressive neo-classical buildings in Athens, the residence of the Benakis family, which was built in 1910 and has seen several alterations and expansions. Important, original collections of the museum are exhibited in other buildings, at the centre and the outskirts of the city.
