The Panathenaic Stadium, also known as “Kallimarmaro” (beautifully marbled), is situated at one of the most central locations in Athens, at Vassileos Konstantinou Avenue. Here, at the natural depression under the hill of Ardettus and next to the river of Ilissos, stood the stadium of the ancient city, which hosted important athletic events.
After its reconstruction in modern times, in the form that it had in antiquity, it was related with some of the most important athletic and cultural events that were carried out in Athens, for example he Olympic Games in 1896 and 2004, while it is here that they carry out the Olympic Flame Handover Ceremony.
