Walking and Shopping at Ermou street
Ermou street, one of the most well-known and central streets of Athens, has been from many decades closely connected with the heart of the commercial activity and fashion, and as a matter of fact it justly has the name of god Hermes, protector of commerce.
It is one of the first streets that were carved in Athens, in 1835, according to the city planning of the architects Kleanthis and Schaubert. During its creation several monuments were destroyed, and only the Byzantine church of Kapnikarea survives, which nowadays is incorporated harmoniously into the created pedestrian zone. Daily it is bustling with life and it is a good opportunity for walking, eating, relaxing and mainly shopping at its numerous commercial stores.
