The Museum of Greek Folk Art is the greatest and most important in Greece with works of modern cultural heritage. Its rich collections cover the period from the middle of the 17th to the 20th century and include exceptional works of folk art and items of everyday life, from various areas of the country. It was founded in 1918 and for decades it was housed at the building at Kidathinaion street, at the district of Plaka, exactly opposite the church of Metamorphosis of Sotiros Kottakis (Transfiguration of Christ). Due to its transference to a new building, from 2015 only four of its annexes can be visited, at the area of Plaka and Monastiraki.
